Please don't make me an example for your children! In fact, at the age of fifteen, I had already left school and begun a job at a local retailer. To tell the truth, I couldn't stand sitting still anymore and leaving the "real work" to other people. I always wanted to get on with things, as fast and as much as possible. And that holds true today (unfortunately, as my wife sometimes says). I continued my education, by the way, eleven years later at a university.
When it comes to culinary delights, I am pretty simple. A good coffee and a good strudel, and I'm happy. But at work I forget the modesty: It can never be good enough for me. That's why, at 29, I not only changed my profession but also my industry and went to work at a bank. I wanted to move more and bigger. I was on the executive board for a total of five years at an international financial institution, as a troubleshooter and development aide in its expansion to the east.
And I gave up this job? Am I crazy? Who gives up an executive position? But that isn't the real question. The question is: Why? Very simple: Because I had to painfully learn firsthand, from my elevated executive perspective, about the giant need for a consulting service that is willing to get down to business. Both from our business customers and from our own managers. There are so many consultants - but do you know of even one who puts his own work into the application of the project he started, so that you and your management team are supported and empowered?
In my opinion, that was always the biggest shortcoming in consulting: The consultants are all highly qualified, no question about it. But when it comes to the implementation of their high-flying ideas, it isn't their money in the game, not their careers, and above all not even their time that is at risk during the project. I always asked myself: How can I trust a consultant who doesn't invest his own assets in a project that could cost me, the customer, an arm and a leg?
That's why I always wanted to offer consulting services, process support and personal coaching where I don't just throw out a brilliant concept and then slide sideways into the bushes, but instead roll up my sleeves and get involved with personal dedication until my clients have reached their goals.
And what can I say? There are a lot of managers and entrepreneurs out there who are looking for just that kind of enterprising and involved consultant. That's the good thing about it. |
